Newcastle Fringe Festival

It’s edgy, diverse, inspirational and super creative and it’s the biggest little fringe in Australia. Gather your tribe and venue hop from performance to performance for the ultimate in fringey fun! And don't forget Newcastle and the Hunter also enjoys beautiful beaches, vineyards, the hippest in cafe culture and loads of history. It's a great place to enjoy the last days of warmer weather.

In a city that boasts a vibrant cultural heritage, the Newcastle Fringe Festival has been running annually since 2016. It showcases a smorgasbord of performing arts from Newcastle, Australia and the world for five amazing days across several venues. In 2021 there are more than 100 events, 11 venues, over 40 artist groups plus a week of streaming on-demand - #bingenewyfringe!

The Fringe caters for all interests – Comedy, Theatre, Children, Music, Dance, Cabaret, Burlesque and Circus. This year is seeing the launch of the first Newcastle Fringe Emerging Filmmaker's Festival, a weekend of free family activities and performances at Newcastle's iconic former railway station - The Station and a series of workshops that cater to kids, adults and performing arts professionals. There is literally something for everyone.

The Fringe is committed to providing performing artists with a launching pad for original work and is open access. It's edgier, more unique, eclectic and quirky than mainstream performance.
