The Song Company: Tremors of Earth - Newcastle
The second concert in their 2022 Underground series is a performance by The Song Company's new vocal ensemble - the Song Co Apprentices, led by Koen van Stade, performing the incredible ‘Earthquake’ Mass of Antoine Brumel, reading the music from the original choir book notation from the 1570s!
The final pages of the Brumel manuscript are lost to the ravages of time, so in their place it seems appropriate to sing a 12-part homage to Brumel’s Mass from the Missa Tempore Paschali by Nicolas Gombert. Reverberating in-between the movements of Brumel’s masterpiece are works by exciting contemporary Australian composers Alice Chance and Antony Pitts.
