Painting, Drawing, Making

Hudson Street Hum is a mecca for all sorts of art lovers — portraits, oils, collage, life drawing, lino printing, felting — it’s all on offer. All sessions are facilitated by local artists who specialise in each artistic practice.

Make Space is an artist-run collective with a variety of art, design, and craft workshops. From ceramic stamp-making, and Tetra Pak printing workshops, to Shibori dyeing workshops, lino printing, and macrame — unique art experiences are available for all skill levels.

Local artist Melody Suranyi runs a series of art workshops, including lino printing and acrylic painting. But it's Melody's 'Watercolour Travel Journalling Workshop' that is especially perfect for visitors to Newcastle. Learn how to record your holiday experiences as mini artistic masterpieces.

Mitch Revs Decked Out workshops are a super approachable way to explore painting — and you get an ultra-personal, one-of-a-kind skate deck at the end of it. 18+ Afterdark sessions are available as general and private classes, either BYO or at licensed venues.

Lupy Lane is a creative studio in Lambton that's passionate about mindful making. Fibre and textile specialists, sign up to try your hand at weaving baskets and wall hangings in one of their approachable, beginner-friendly classes.

Learn how to screen print at a Newcastle Printmakers Workshop event. Depending on the workshop, you can create your choice of tote bag, t-shirt, or tea towel. Or design and print a work on paper. All artist-led, all a whole bunch of creative fun.

Art and Sip

For experienced artists through to first-time sketchers, the team at LEDA Gallery creates an inclusive and judgment-free environment for their immersive 'Drink and Draw' life drawing workshops. Everything is supplied and no experience is required. It's just two hours of pure drawing pleasure.

Pinot & Picasso sessions are a great introduction to the world of painting, as each session has a set theme and artwork to create — so there's no pressure to come up with your own creation. Simply rock up, chill out in the relaxed group environment, and let the art flow.

Clay Workshops

Grounded by Design is a Carrington-based creative studio operating out of MOA & Co. and the team is now offering 'Play with Clay' self-directed sessions. Designed to let guests explore their creative interests and love of clay, this experience is perfect for individuals or small groups.

From talented potters to complete newbies — you're all welcome at The Art Department. There are a host of options available: Clay & Coffee or Clay & Sip sessions, vase or mug making, plus you can even create something truly unique in a Hand Building Class.

The Clay Room in Tighes Hill is an ideal spot for an afternoon of creative fun. Workshops include materials, tools, glazing, and firing, plus afternoon tea or a glass of bubbles. Popular options include wheel-throwing workshops and make-your-own vase sessions.

Beauty and Decor

Scrubba Body is a Newcastle-based business, focused on creating natural, vegan-friendly skincare and bath essentials. Whether you try their Body Scrub or Candle Making Workshops you'll be treated to a hands-on fragrance-filled adventure with take home goodies.

Cooking Classes

The Hunter's Pantry is where aspiring cooks and food enthusiasts can learn recipes and techniques in a relaxed, aromatic, tasty environment. Under the guidance of skilled culinary pros, whip up a paella, bake artisan bread, make a bao, create Japanese dumplings, and so much more.

Pastry and baking fans will love the classes on offer at The Yellow Door Kitchen. Their 'Baguette Loves Antipasto' class combines French baguette making with classic Italian antipasto ingredients for a memorable feast finale. For dessert lovers, choux pastry and classic sweet tart classes are just the beginning.

At Earp Distilling Co. this immersive experience has you distilling your very own spirit from start to finish. Learn the tricks, select your botanicals, mix the cuts, and blend your flavours. And of course, you get to taste your bespoke creation after bottling it in one of the ultra-chic ceramic bottles.

Shake and stir your way through three classic cocktails thanks to the expert mixologists from Coal and Cedar. Plus, you'll leave being able to free pour with style, and you'll have created a signature cocktail to impress your pals.

The team at Koutetsu runs private and group masterclasses year-round, perfect for refined spirit aficionados to complete beginners. Seasonal cocktails, plus a collaborative creation will be on the menu, plus a light grazing platter to enjoy.

Join Bartholomew's 'The Shaker' class to taste and create classic cocktails using premium spirits and fresh ingredients — plus a cheese and charcuterie platter for good measure. Group and private sessions are available, just get in contact with the team.
