Civic Theatre Newcastle

The Civic Theatre Newcastle is one of Australia's great historic theatres with a richly baroque interior sure to delight and inspire. The exterior of the building references the Georgian revival style with elegant arched windows.

The heritage listed theatre was designed by theatre architect Henry Eli White who was responsible for the design of Newcastle City Hall and the State Theatre in Sydney. In a spectacular celebratory ceremony, it was opened by the Premier of New South Wales in 1929. It is one of the few surviving late-1920s atmospheric theatres in the country.

The Civic is Newcastle's premier venue for live performance, presenting a year-round calendar of events including live music, comedy, dance, drama and musicals.

Within the footprint of the Civic Theatre is the Civic Theatre Cafe, which offers aromatic brews by Glitch Coffee Roasters, an impressive selection of The Tea Collective handcrafted specialty teas, and and convenient range of grab & go food options including sandwiches, wraps, salads, and more. The Civic Theatre Cafe is open weekdays 7am-2pm and one hour prior to Civic Theatre shows.

There are also two bars, which offer a wide range of local beers, wines, and ciders. Civic Theatre Bars open one hour before showtimes.
