A Midsummer Night's Dream
Forget everything you think you know about Shakespeare.
Hunter Drama's acclaimed Performance Troupe presents a vibrant and unexpected take on William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream promising to sweep audiences into a world of magic, mischief, and theatrical invention.
Bursting with colour, creativity, and imagination, Shakespeare's most enchanting comedy weaves together lovers, fairies, and a troupe of hilariously inept actors in a fast-moving story where anything can happen and usually does. As night falls on an ancient forest, four young lovers flee the city in search of freedom only to become tangled in a web of love potions, mistaken identities, and mischievous fairies. Meanwhile, a troupe of amateur actors prepares a play so bad it just might be brilliant. A Midsummer Night's Dream is a whimsical celebration of love in all its wild, ridiculous, and magical forms.
This production, however, is far from traditional. The show leans into a striking conceptual contrast - order versus chaos. Set through an early 20th-century lens, the structured world of Athens gives way to a wild, bohemian forest inspired by a gypsy-carnival aesthetic. The stage transforms into a circus-like environment, creating an immersive and visually arresting experience.
Audiences can expect a high-energy theatrical experience filled with comedy, romance, physicality, and surprise - from slapstick humour and magical transformations to movement, dance, and moments of genuine emotion.
