Newcastle Art Gallery

Experience the reimagined Newcastle Art Gallery – a place to see, explore and engage with art from Newcastle, Australia and the world.

Since 1957, the Gallery has been at the heart of Newcastle's arts and cultural life. What began as a gift and courageous idea has grown into a world-class Gallery for local community and curious travellers.

Free general admission includes access to Ground Floor galleries, home to a long-term display from the permanent collection. First Floor galleries present evolving temporary exhibitions showcasing works of art by local, national and global artists. Some temporary exhibitions may require a paid ticket, please enquire at the front desk during your visit for details.

Enhance your visit with a free guided tour with knowledgeable volunteer Gallery Guides, explore a dynamic program of late-night events and workshops, or simply take your time.

The Gallery Shop takes the art experience beyond the walls. Discover a vibrant mix of products, prints and publications inspired by the artists and exhibitions on view. Thoughtfully curated, the shop champions more than 30 local artisans and over 70 brands across diverse styles and mediums. Open during Gallery hours.

Hilliers Cafe is a relaxed modern café where food and art come together. With a view of Civic Park, drop in for coffee, fresh seasonal plates and familiar favourites. A perfect companion to your Gallery visit.
