Getting Here
By Plane
Fly into Newcastle Airport, where all arrivals/departures are on the ground floor with step‑free terminal access, accessible toilets, and designated accessible parking. For wheelchair or other assistance inside the terminal, pre‑arrange with your airline. The airport also supports the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower program and can provide lanyards on request.
By Train
Use NSW TrainLink services to/from Newcastle Interchange and regional centres. You can request assistance and wheelchair spaces when booking (online or via 13 22 32), and staff can arrange platform‑to‑train boarding ramps; note that accessibility varies on some regional trains and trackwork may replace trains with coaches.
By Coach
Greyhound Australia run coach services from Sydney to Newcastle. Coaches include lifts/accessible boarding on designated services, reserved seating and onboard amenities (toilet, Wi‑Fi, USB). Travel assistance is provided for passengers with access needs.
Getting Around
Accessible Public Transport
Newcastle is constantly striving to provide a public transport network that is inclusive and accessible for all. Newcastle Transport light rail, buses and ferries are accessible. Mobility aids including wheelchairs, motorised wheelchairs, walking frames, prams and strollers can safely board and travel on light rail, most buses, ferries and trains. Approved assistance animals are allowed on Newcastle Transport.
Parking Options
Newcastle has a number of accessible parking options (see Map) with extended permissions for accessible parking permit holders.
Parking permissions:
- Where parking is greater than 30 minutes, the vehicle can park for an unlimited time.
- Where parking is limited to 30 minutes, the vehicle can park for 2 hours.
- Where parking is less than 30 minutes, the vehicle can park for a maximum of 30 minutes.
- Accessible parking permit holders can park in ticketed parking areas at no charge and can stop in no parking areas for no longer than five minutes.
