Christmas in Newcastle

Jingle your way into the festive spirit with Christmas in the City!  

 
This year, City of Newcastle’s spectacular 11-metre Christmas Tree will light up the heart of the city with three weekends of festive fun, live entertainment and free photos with Santa. 

The celebrations will sparkle with shimmering bells, twinkling lights, and joyful activations designed to bring the community together.  

The season officially kicks off with our special launch event in Wheeler Place on Friday 28 November from 5pm to 8pm.  

The evening will be filled with festive fun for all ages. Capture the moment with free Santa photos from 5pm, get into the groove with a DJ spinning Christmas favourites and meet our cheeky Elves with Bells as they roam through the crowd spreading cheer. 

Indulge your sweet tooth with delicious treats from LuLu’s Gelato Co and Doughheads, who’ll be serving up their special Christmas-themed doughnut range.  

Get creative at the Jingle Bell craft station and post a Letter to Santa while soaking up the festive atmosphere. 

Throughout the evening, enjoy a spectacular line-up of live entertainment, including Christmas dance performances, a carolling choir, and a jazz band playing your favourite Christmas tunes. 

The highlight of the night will be the lighting of the Christmas tree by Deputy Lord Mayor Cr Charlotte McCabe, alongside Santa and the Elves with Bells, followed by a joyful “Jingle Bells” finale featuring the jazz band, choir and dancers. Sing along and ring your bells to get into the Christmas spirit! 

The festive fun continues over three weekends, with Santa photos, pet pawtraits and live music lighting up Wheeler Place on Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons.
