Wednesday Comedy Lineup

Five comedians from Newcastle and the Central Coast will perform extended sets of their favourite material at a one-off Wednesday Comedy Lineup.

The rare midweek event offers local stand-up fans a relaxed addition to the scene's usually busy weekend calendar, and a chance to discover some of the region's standout acts.

One of the night's organisers explained the motivation was to see what interesting sets these comedians could create with more stage time than they are normally afforded.

The lineup features seasoned comedian Fiona Cox, Raw Comedy competition state finalist Steve Dowse and Comedy Writers Group Comedian of the Year nominee Huw Rogers, alongside emerging talent Michael O'Connor and Elih Jackson. Each brings a distinctly different comedic style.

Cox milks deadpan and cheeky observations out of tolerating life's mundanity, Dowse shares punchy stories about dating at the bottom of the barrel, Rogers brings playful humour from the absurdities of living with blindness, O'Connor offers offbeat musings on parental despair and household chaos, while Jackson delivers working-class takes from a wildlife researcher.

The organisers say Newcastle's growing stand-up scene is attracting comics from all around Australia, making spots on quality local lineups increasingly competitive. Rogers adds that with stage time harder to come by, the comedians will bring their A-game to this show.
